You can ask anything you like, try to form your question without a "yes/no" in mind, for example "what is this person feeling" or "what do I need to know right now" or "how will this situation work out" etc. While I can easily read yes or no questions, you get a much broader answer when you expand in the asking beyond a yes or no goal.
